The Bachelor of Arts in English Language Learner Studies offers you a comprehensive study of linguistics that can provide for the unique needs of language learners. Your courses cover subjects from reading and grammar to diversity and inter-cultural communications. The Bachelor of English Language convey basic historical and systematic knowledge of the varieties of the English language as well as English speaking literatures and cultures. This program introduces theories, concepts and methods of English linguistics and literature, advance oral and written competences in English academic discourse and instruct students in their own independent academic work.
English is one of the world's most commonly spoken languages. In the rapidly changing media and communication industries, communication professionals will need stronger knowledge, skills and competencies in English to meet the change in market demand, especially in the areas of reading, writing, and speaking. The program is designed to strengthen the students’ competencies in the English language and enrich their knowledge of the discipline.
Students are normally expected to do learning and assessment activities (such as attending lectures, and assigned textbook readings. The student workload for some subjects may vary from these norms as a result of approved course design. Courses in general are assessed separately using a mixture of writing and oral examinations, coursework, presentations and projects.
Graduates who enter the job market with a bachelor´s degree in English Language and Literature may find employment in a wide range of professions, often those emphasizing research skills; analytic and interpretive skills; production of written materials; and communication, whether oral or written. As an English language graduate, you open up many career opportunities in such areas as:
- journalism, publishing, editing, writing, electronic media, public relations and corporate communications
- marketing, advertising, business research and analysis
- management consulting, international trade, human resources, training and development, management and administration
- diplomacy, foreign affairs and politics
- teaching (with an extra qualification) and education administration
- tourism, hospitality, entertainment and leisure industries
- performing arts (music or drama), production, direction, management and administration, film, television and video
- library services, museum and gallery administration arts management and event coordination
- translating, interpreting and voice recognition services.
