ANU Nursing Dept. Students Organize ‘Psychological Support for Psychopaths’ Event

Organized under the slogan ‘Moral Support for Psychopaths,’ an event was conducted by the fourth level students of Nursing Department at Faculty of Medical Sciences. The event took place on Tuesday, 8 Dec 2020, at the headquarter of Psycho-neurological Hospital (known previously as Al Amal Mental Hospital), Assafyah neighborhood, Sana’a.

The event was meant to offer the psychological support to the Hospital’s inpatients and relieve their pain and suffering through the event’s entertaining program which was designed to help them cheer up as well as break the climate of depression and loneliness that some psychotic patients are afflicted with.

According to Dr. Abdurraqeeb El Hanani, the Head of Nursing Department, the idea of the event was first adopted by the department’s fourth level students to be later on encouraged and implemented by the Chancellor. He highlighted the event’s significance which is remarkable in the positive and cherished effect it leaves with the patients. Moreover, it promotes their feelings that there are people, beside family and friends, who care for and stand by them.

For his part, Mr. Aydrous Essalewi, presented on behalf of the Hospital’s staff his sincere thanks to Al-Nasser University in addition to whosoever contributed to the initiative of cheering the inpatients up. He also recited a poem by which he expressed the Hospital’s sublime goals, mission, and services.

The event was held in the presence of Dr.  Abdurraqeeb El Hanani (Head of Nursing Department), Dr. Akram El Fahd (the Hospital’s Vice Chairman), Dr. Yosuf Meftah, Dr. Ahmed Mahoub, Dr. Mohammed Ennehari, a group of the Hospital’s staff members, a large number of inpatients, and representatives of the event’s sponsors.

The event’s program had variable entertaining and purposeful shows including: poems, songs, plays, and motivating speeches that all targeted the inpatients and could noticeably attract their interaction. It was concluded by handing honor certificates over to the event’s coordinators, a number of the Hospital’s prominent doctors and staff members, and the sponsors. Besides, some inpatients were given encouragement awards.
