6th Week Viva Sessions of Graduation Research Projects at FAFS
In the presence of Dr. Ahmed Saif Muharram (CBT) and Prof. Abdullah Tahish (the Chancellor), Faculty of Medical Sciences commenced the 2017/2018 scientific week with the viva voce sessions of Pharmacy, Medical Lab, and Nursing graduation research projects on Monday, Sep 4, 2018.
Delivering the opening speech, Prof Tahish noted to the scientific competence and development as a touchstone of excellence and the key solution for all social maladies. He praised the efforts made by FMS deanship as well as the guides preparing such valuable studies that are worthy of publication in refereed journals. Addressing the students, he stressed that graduation researches lay the proper foundation of the higher studies and future career.
The presented papers tackled reality-touching topics of relevance to the health fields of Pharmacy, Medical Laboratories, Nursing and Community Health. The researchers keenly attempted to find and suggest solutions for the common health problems. The 18 research papers comprised the following topics:
In vivo study of the effect of Sidr leaves extract as anti-dandruff shampoo formulation; Design and Evaluation of Substituted Thiazol Bioisoster of Sorafenib as a Potent Anti-cancer Agent; Bacteria-resistant Quanolones at UTIs in Sana’a city; Prevalence of Clinical Characteristics and Risk Assessment of Metabolic Syndrome among Coronary Artery Disease Patients in Yemen; Assessment of the Spread, Causes and Consequences of Drug Smuggling into Yemen; Formulation and Evaluation of Jatropha Variegate Extract as Ointment Cream and Gel for Wound and Bleeding; Topical Herbal Formulation of Chamomile and Eucalyptus Volatile Oil; Synthesis, Characterization and Study of the Biological Activity of Some New Ibuprofen Derivatives; Perception of Community Pharmacists at Sana’a Yemen about the Safe OTC Medications for Lactating Women; Comparative Study between some Smuggled and Officially Imported Cardiovascular Drugs; Comparative Study of the Treatment of H. Pylori by Chemical Medicine and Herbs; Prevalence of Intestinal Parasites among 5-9 year Children at Al-Thourah and Ma’een Districts, Sana’a City; Prevalence of Hepatitis B Virus among Patient of Hepatic in Sana’a City, Yemen; Prevalence of Cardiovascular Disease and Parasites among 5-9 year Children at Al -Thourah and Ma’een Districts, Sana’a city; Needle, Stick and Sharp Injuries of Nursing Staff at AL-Gomhori Hospital, Sana’a City; Identifying the Factors Associated with Malnutrition among Preschool Children in Sana’a, Yemen; Identifying the Nurses’ Perceptions Related to Enteral Nutrition at the Intensive Care Units in Sana’a Hospitals; The knowledge and Practice of ICU Nurses about Pressure Ulcer in Sana`a Hospitals.
In his speech, Dr. Abdulkareem El-Zumor (FMS Dean), pointed out that the scientific research represents the cornerstone of nations’ development. The developed countries reached their current advanced positions because of the attention they paid, the priority they gave, and the funds and material support they assigned to scientific research.
He highly appreciated the CBT’s and Chancellor’s interest in scientific research as well as support by providing the facilities necessary for FMS students to successfully bring out such excellent research papers.
For his part, Dr. Yasser El-Math-haji (Head of Pharmacy Department) stressed that the papers presented by students are more distinctive every new year. Noting to how they keep pace with the scientific evolution in spite of the limited potentials, he highlighted the ANU’s intention to establish a research lab well-equipped for the purpose.
According to Dr. Anwar Maso’ud (Director of Quality Unit), the scientific research has been one of the principal missions and a basic ingredient of the international universities’ educational programs.
Dr. Shawqi El-Oudi (a guide & external examiner) considered the presented research papers as outstanding in terms of their practical work as Master dissertations. He wished that they would be the first step ushering the students’ professional and academic career.
The opening session was held at the FMS’s grand hall in the presence of Mr. Ali El-Thayfani (Secretary General), heads of departments, faculty and staff members, and a large number of students. The viva sessions are to continue up to the week end.
