ANU Hosts His Excellency Prime Minister

Al-Nasser University hosted a visit by Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh Ben Hebtour, the Prime Minister, on Monday, 25 Nov 2019. His Excellency Prime Minister visited the University’s headquarter where he met the University’s board represented by Prof Abdullah Tahish (the Chancellor) and the faculty and staff members in addition to a number of students.

The meeting was held in the presence of Staff Lieutenant General Jalal Errwaishan (Deputy Prime Minister for Security and Defense Affairs), Mr. Hussein Hazeb (Minister of Higher Education), Mr. Abdulhameed El-Haddi (Shura Council Member), Dr. Mohammed El-Mekhlafi (Secretary General of Private Universities Federation), the Director of ANU Quality Unit, the ANU Secretary General, deans of faculties and heads of departments.

At the meeting, Prime Minister gave a speech in which he thanked Al-Nasser for hosting the meeting. He confirmed the fact that Al-Nasser University is one of the Yemeni major universities and the leading academic institutions that contributed to the graduation of the qualified professionals to the labor market.

He talked also about some national issues in addition to certain topics concerning the University. He noted to how Yemen is undergoing an exceptional situation during which the Yemenis could make great victories due to their sacrifice and steadfastness.

From another perspective, he noted to how universities represent the lonely life vest of any community as they produce learning, knowledge, and culture that lift it out of ignorance and onto advancement. He also pointed out to how the name of any country is derived from the reputation of its universities. As a result, the universities should be kept away from the legal and political procedures that might hinder their role in national development.

For his part, Prof Tahish delivered a speech in which he greeted the visitors and thanked such a kind gesture by Their Excellency the Prime Minister and Ministers.

The Chancellor pointed out how the University offers its educational services based on three broad goals: education, research, and community service and a noticeable success could be achieved in each field. Educationally, the University could provide an upgraded curriculum that meets the labor market’s requirements in addition to competent faculty as well as infrastructure that go in line with the MHESR’s regulation. It, furthermore complies with the benchmarks of Academic Accreditation Council. As a result, ANU could provide the labor market with competent professionals who are able to compete locally and regionally.

As for research, the University has provided well-equipped labs at Faculty of Medical Sciences in addition to financing graduation research projects, the excellent ones in particular. It, besides, has participated in many scientific conferences and sponsored a number of scientific activities and events too. There are two refereed journals: one is solely issued by the University while the other is issued jointly with the Research Council affiliated to Arab League. As for community service, ANU has many outstanding contributions and social and charity activities to organize throughout the year.

At the end of the meeting, the Chancellor dedicated ANU honor plaques to Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Higher Education in appreciation of their visit to and interest in the University.
