ANU Hosts TAD: Google Developer 2018 1st Event

The 2018 1st event of Technical Awareness Development program (TAD) was hosted by Al-Nasser University. Conducted by Google Developer Group-Sana’a, the event is meant to prompt the internet users’ technical awareness and improve their experience with the web.

In his opening speech, Prof. Abdullah Tahish (the Chancellor) noted to the ANU’s objective of prompting the students’ qualification by building a strong relationship with whosoever supports such an objective. He pointed out that Google offers a lot of services which support education by making easy for all to get information. Praising Google team’s efforts to organize the event, he welcomed any proposal of mutual cooperation that would prompt the students’ learning.

Targeting IT & IS students at Al-Nasser University, the event tackled many issues including: introducing Google’s tools & services; introducing the concept of Wiki and how to add a contribution to Wikipedia; introducing the web users to such skills as Cloud storage; using internet tools and services for academic purposes; files’ remote network management; enriching the Arabic web content; having a broad view of the internet capacities; and the proper use of social networking.

According to Dr. Fahd El-Wesabi, Head of I T Department at ANU, the event takes place within the department’s 2017/2018 activity plan. It aims at helping students acquire various skills, as well as identifying them with the up-to-date education and learning technologies offered by Google. In addition, the participants can share the google developer team’s experience and thus connect the theoretical knowledge they had in class with its practical aspects.

For his part, Mr. Rashad El-Khamisi, Director of Google Developer Group-Yemen, noted to the Yemeni internet users’ shortcomings as to how to make use of the web for learning, business purposes, etc. Such events are organized to deal with the above shortcomings through the technological services offered by the world great companies including Google. He highly appreciated Al-Nasser’s interest as well as collaboration hosting the event and providing all required facilities.

The event was organized at FMS’ grand hall in the presence of Mr. Ali El-Thayfani (Secretary General), faculty and staff members, and 80 participants from IT & IS departments.
