ANU Organizes Thalassemia Charity Outreach Event

In collaboration with Yemen Society for Thalassemia Patients (YSTP), a thalassemia charity outreach event was organized by the Medical Labs & IS students of Al-Nasser University at FMS on Monday, April 8, 2019. Conducted under the slogan “don’t be a cause of their suffering,” the campaign intended to introduce the thalassemia diseases as well as the methods of protection.

The event  contained two programs: an outreach program with entertaining and purposeful shows on the one hand and a charity bazaar by which donations were collected and proceeds go for thalassemia patients on the other.

In his speech, Dr. Mukhtar Ezzumor (Head of Medical Labs Department) noted that the event is meant to promote the social solidarity principle amid the different community groups so as to relieve some of the burdens shouldered by thalassemia patients. He invited the orgs and civil societies to take part in controlling the disease and support the patients materially and morally. He also called for blood donation and raising the public awareness so broadly as to eradicate the disease. He thanked the students who coordinated the event as well as the university’s board and faculty’s deanship for patronage.

For his part, Dr. Mukhtar El-Qubati (the YSTP representative) pointed out that organizing such an event for the seventh year in a row confirms Al-Nasser University’s commitment to the community’s issues of which thalassemia is part and parcel. He presented a brief introduction to the disease, methods of protection, and the importance of premarital checkups for a healthy family and thalassemia-free childhood.

The event was conducted in the presence of Mr. Ali El-Thayfani (Secretary General), Dr. Abdulkareem Ezzumor (FMS Dean) some of the faculty and staff members, YSTP delegate, and a big number of the University’s students.
