ANU Partakes in National Polio Immunization Campaign

In coincidence with the launch of the national polio immunization campaign across the national territories, Al-Nasser University took part in supporting the health teams participating in the campaign at Assaba’een district in the capital city of Sana’a, that started activities on Monday, 23 Dec 2019.

 

Taking place as part of the implementing the University’s third goal of interacting with community service issues, the participation confirms Al-Nasser’s keen interest in enhancing partnerships with the various community individuals, foundations, and civil society organizations.

The campaign was launched last Monday at Sab’een Mother & Child Hospital in the presence of Colonel Jalal Errwayshan, Deputy Prime Minister for Security and Defense and Dr. Taha El-Motawakel, Minister of Public Health in addition to a number of ministers and state officials.

Conducted under the slogan, “Immunization: Health & Life,” the three-day campaign is intended to combat the epidemics in Yemen including Polio that spread over the neighboring countries causing fears of its recurrence in Yemen specially due to the current circumstances it undergoes.

The Director of Public Health Office at Assab’een district, Dr. Essafi Nu’man, noted that the campaign is carried out by the National Expanded Immunization Program affiliated to Ministry of Public Health in collaboration with WHO and UNICEF. It targets 5,500,000 pre-vaccinated children below 5 years and newborns in order to eliminate the virus.

For her part, Dr. Wardah El-Quhali, Director of Public Health Office at Attahreer district, invited parents to cooperate with the home-to-home immunization teams which set out to reach all the children targeted by the campaign. In case a house is missed by the teams, the immunization centers across the different governorates and districts are open throughout the campaign days.

According to the team superintendent at Assab’een district, Mr. Hamzah Muthana, the fixed and mobile teams comprise about 1,387 health workers in addition to volunteers. They have been trained at the health offices of the respective districts to do their jobs very well. He thanked Al-Nasser University represented by its chancellor for its support to the participating teams as well as the contribution to the success of the campaign.
