Tuesday, 01 January 2019

With the purpose of providing an integrated learning environment that keeps pace with the recent technology and upgrades the practical and theoretical learning, the device of Enzyme Linked Immuno-Sorbent Assay (ELISA) was launched in Department of Medical Labs, Faculty of Medical Sciences. As part of their keen interest in the event, Dr. Ahmed Saif Muharram (CBT) and Prof Abdullah Tahish (the Chancellor) attended a training session on how to use the device held at the Medical Labs Department.

ELISA is a diagnostic technology widely used in most clinical labs for virus diagnostics, immunity and Hepatitis analysis, and hormones measurement. In addition, it is broadly applied in scientific research for a number of reasons: ability to analyze a large number of samples in a relative short time as well as due to its 99% high sensitivity.

According to Dr. Mukhtar Ezzumor (Head of Medical Labs Department), launching such a device would improve the students’ practical skills. Furthermore, it facilitates teaching the practical of Viruses and Hormones courses within the Faculty’s labs.  Besides, the fourth-level students are now able to measure the tests and results of their graduation researches at the department with no need to go to external labs.
