Medical Labs Dept Holds Thalassemia Charity Activity

Under the auspices of Prof Abdullah Tahish, the Chancellor, the Annual Thalassemia Activity was organized by Medical Labs Department, Faculty of Medical Sciences, in collaboration with Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders and National Blood Transfusion & Research Center. The event was held on Sat, 21 Jan 2023, at the University headquarter with the purpose of raising awareness about the thalassemia and genetic blood disorders.

In his speech, the Chancellor greeted the participants and confirmed that Al-Nasser University has paid attention to such activities guided by its commitment to community education which implements the third main goal of community service. He also expressed his sense of pride over the efforts made by Medical Labs students to carry out such an excellent activity.

The event’s program included many parts: the first part was an education seminar meant to introduce thalassemia and genetic blood disorders, preventive methods, and the importance as well as mechanism of blood donation. The second part was a charity bazaar with many sales the proceeds of which went to the aid of thalassemia patients. The third section comprised a blood donation campaign conducted in coordination with specialists from National Blood Transfusion & Research Center. The fourth part was a scientific gallery displaying visual figures that embody the activity themes.

According to Dr. Mukhtar Ezzumor, Head of Medical Labs Department, the activity is held annually by the Department to raise awareness, promote social solidarity, and relieve the patients’ suffering. This year’s event, he maintained, is widely organized in collaboration with the concerned institutions so as to its goals.

The event’s program comprised many purposeful shows and speeches by the representatives of Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders and National Blood Transfusion & Research Center who talked about the significance of organizing such activities for combatting the disease and support their work. The event was concluded with honoring the participants. Prof Tahish was also honored by Head of Medical Labs Department and representatives of Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders and National Blood Transfusion & Research Center for his constant collaboration and support.

The event was held in the presence of Prof Abdulkareem Ezzumor, FMS Dean, Dr. Fahd Elkhayat, FAFS Dean, Dr. Mohammed Shawqi, FH Dean, Dr. Qais Ennuzaili, FECS Vice Dean, some faculty and staff members, delegates from the YSTGBD and NBTRC, in addition to a large number of students.
