Pharmacology Students Defend their Research Projects in Scholarly Week
A scholarly week has been organized by Department of Research and Training between Wednesday 4-11-2014 and 11-11-2014. During the week, 250 Pharmacology Students into 20 groups give presentations of the research projects they prepared throughout their final year as well as defend them before the committee of examiners. Most of the projects are generally concerned with public health and environment. They deal with such significant issues as pharmaceutical industry, drug smuggling, and the impact of chemicals and pesticides on environment and public health.
Many very important results were concluded by the presented research papers. They recommended that Ministry of Public Health should increase safety and inspection measures over pharmaceutical industries and importation to guarantee meeting the international health standards and protecting people against the diseases caused by smuggled drugs.
For their part, the committee of examiners recommended that such scholarly researches must be developed and implemented since they represent a major step towards the green revolution where plants are an alternative and less lethal source of medication. They, besides, help the government identify the risks some drugs cause due to the lack of surveillance over pharmaceutical and chemicals companies.
The scholarly week was officially opened by the Rector, Prof. Saeed Alghalibi, and the Director of Research and Training at FMS, Dr. Ahmed Mahoob.
The committee of examiners consisted of: Prof. Saeed Alghalibi, the Rector, Dr. Tawfeeq Alobaidi, a professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Sana’a University, and Dr. Mohammed Alghazali, Head of Pharmacology Dept at Al-Nasser University.
