For his part, Reinhold Brander, EU Deputy Ambassador to Cairo, emphasized the commitment of the EU to supporting scientific research projects in the Arab countries, noting the importance of enhancing cooperation in this field between the European Union and the Arab League. In his address to the audience, he cited such global challenges as: food security, power supply, and environmental degradation. He pointed out that the cooperation between the European Union and the Arab League in the field of scientific research would contribute to providing effective solutions to such problems. He added that the support of scientific research in the Arab States represents one of the most important strategic objectives adopted by the European Union to reinforce human development. He furthermore confirmed that the cooperation with the Arab League was a great success so far. Nearly 1,500 scientific studies have been funded by the European Union plan of scientific research support.

In his speech, Prof Abdullah Tahish stated that the lack of funding represents one of the most immediate obstacles for scientific research in Yemen and other Arab countries.  It deprives communities there of the research practical advantages.

It is scheduled that after the completion of the workshop, a committee will be elected to monitor the implementation of the program’s outcome so that researches can be done according to a well-organized mechanism.
