Training Workshop for Lab Technicians and Cleaning Staff

A workshop on the methods of cleaning and sterilization was organized last Saturday at Faculty of Medical Sciences.

Principally targeting the lab technicians and cleaning staff, the workshop came to emphasize the University’s interest in raising its cadre’s professional efficiency.

In her speech, Dr. Ibtisam El-Mo’ayad (Head of Lab Dept) highlighted the significant role such a category of employees play keeping our work environment hygienic and convenient. Targeting them by training, therefore, has always been a must.

Five main themes were addressed by the workshop. The first theme tackled the key concepts and basics of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization. It further focused on how to deal with cleaning tools.

The second theme talked about the importance of hygiene for laboratories, offices, classrooms and other workplaces. The essential role of cleanliness keepers arises in maintaining a hygienic work environment and thus ensuring the control of infection as well as the reduction of hazardous pollutants.

The third and fourth themes discussed the scientific methods of using detergents, cleansers and disinfectants on the one hand, and how to safely and properly handle the lab hazardous waste so as to ensure the reduction and elimination of microbes on the other.

The final theme cast the light on the standard precautions for infection control and training participants on the proper way to clean and wash their hands. They also learnt how to use personal protective tools and how to handle sharp tools with extreme care.

For their part, participants showed a remarkable interaction over the various topics addressed. They, moreover, valued the important professional experience acquired from training.
