Workshop Organized by Quality Unit, ‘Institutional Benchmarks: A Way to Quality & Distinction’

In the presence of Dr. Ahmed Saif Muharram (CBT) and Prof Abdullah Tahish (the Chancellor), a workshop under the slogan, “Institutional Benchmarks: A Way to Quality & Distinction” was organized by the Quality Unit at Al-Nasser University on Wed & Thurs, 23-24 Jan 2019.

The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Saleh Bahaj who focused his discussion with participants on the institutional benchmarks including: planning, leadership, programs, faculty, students, system, educational atmosphere, infrastructure, and competition that altogether lead any institution to distinction.

Addressing the audience at the outset of the workshop, Dr. Muharram noted to the significance of every individual at Al-Nasser as a university having obvious policies, regulations, and statute which had been achieved with much of collective efforts and team work. He confirmed that the University works in accordance with institutional principles and standards so as to improve the performance and, thus, promote the quality of the service it offers.

Prof Tahish pointed out that the workshop stands for an assessment that determines the exact location of the University within the institutional framework. He highlighted the ANU’s employment of most of the benchmarks tackled by the workshop and stated its determination to improve the unsatisfactory ones.

Dr. Salah Bahaj, the workshop’s keynote speaker, stressed that without institutional benchmarks no high quality can be achieved. He noted to the importance of fathoming the institutional concept by any educational institutions in order to meet the total framework of benchmarks and, thus, to possess high-quality outcomes. He also praised, in this respect, the interest of the ANU’s Board in assessing as well as improving the University’s institutional benchmarks to reach quality.

For his part, Dr. Anwar Maso’ud (Director of ANU’s Quality Unit) pointed out that the University had gone a long way in the field of quality with the help of many strategic plans. Therefore, the present workshop was conducted to keep pace with the developments in the scope of quality as well as to reach distinction. It was principally meant to enhance the University’s strengths and reform weaknesses so that ANU can implement the institutional standards and rank first in terms of quality and distinction.

Organized at the university’s headquarter, the workshop targeted the board of directors, deans of faculties, Secretary-general, heads of departments, and a number of faculty members.
